Each year, we pick an adventure for our vacation. This year we decided to go with OARS on the Rogue River with their wine tasting trip. What a wonderful time we had. The first day we rode with the guide and just looked at the magnificent scenery, the second day we took in the paddle boat and got a little exercise, and the third day we were game for the Ducky up close and personal to the rapids in an inflatable kayak . What fun!! Class 2 through 4 rapids culminating at Blossom Bar truly gets your adrenaline running. And did I mention the food? Four course delectable meals served at riverside tables with table cloths and serviettes all cooked on a camp stove by a chef who was travelling with us. Absolutely delicious and paired with the best wine presented by a wine sommelier...well it doesn't get any better than this. Not to be forgotten, our guides were the best, they knew the river, told us stories, and made sure that we all had the best time while being safe. Sleeping under the stars in your cozy tent with only the sound of the river going by was divine only to wake the next morning to a huge breakfast, coffee and promises of another day full of adventure. I highly recommend this trip to old and young, you won't be sorry.
I would recommend this or a similar trip to anyone who loves the outdoors. It was an ideal vacation for our outdoorsy teenaged son. We are looking forward to doing other rafting trips next summer because now we are hooked.
I took my two 11 year old granddaughters on the trip. By the end of the trip they were paddling the duckies through class II rapids, jumping off cliffs, swimming bubbling eddies and sliding down mossy shoots. They loved the campfire programs. They loved the river. I told them I would take them on a different river next year and they said they wanted to return to the Rogue and they wanted to do it with the same team.
I led a private rafting trip down the Rogue River and hired a shuttle company to take my car & trailer to the take out. Upon arriving, I discovered that the trailer wheel bearings were missing from one wheel and my trailer was going to be functional for the trip back to the interstate. The crew with O.A.R.S. came to our rescue and helped us out immensely. They went out of their way to assist and helped us through this challenge. My friends and I are extremely grateful! Thank you O.A.R.S. Rafting in Oregon. You saved our day!
Rogue River is a good spot for a boating adventure - not to hard but also not too easy. It got everything of it.
We went on the 5 day Rogue River trip this August (2014). The trip was well organized and efficient. The guides were unflaggingly cheerful and helpful, and were extremely knowledgeable about the area wildlife. The food was excellent!
The guides stopped at a number of places along the river for us to enjoy notable jump rocks, a natural water slide that we hiked up to, and swimming holes created by the creeks that flowed into the Rogue. They knew all the safe "swimming rapids" and other neat spots.
The wildlife was amazing, as was the beauty of the Rogue canyon and the surrounding hills. We saw bears, bald eagles, osprey, salmon, newts, turtles, and lots of deer. We saw a mama bear with three little cubs right across the river from our camp!
We had hot dry weather the entire week. The water was warm at this time of the year, so almost all of the kids spent a significant amount of time in the river as we floated along. In fact on the last couple of days our water assaults on the Jet Boats, and the playful paddle boat guide, made sure that the kids were constantly soaked. The rapids were challenging enough for paddling novices to get their adrenaline going but not so scary that the little kids and old folks (me) were scared.
OARS is well equipped. Everything is in order and kept well. The food is as mentioned before just great - and they did serve on our tour a lot of regional and organic food.
We did a wonderful 4-day trip on the Rogue River in June. Our guides did a great job - they're not only good in boating - the are also really good cooks! the paddling during the day was awesome and the time in the night camps just comfy and worth to remember.
