JR, our guide has about 20 years, and he was very accommodating to our progress, to introduce new exciting activities all the time, while sending us to the right level of Rapids, only when we were ready to do it safely, in confidence.
I went kayaking with my family with Sundance with very little prior experience on the water and being kind of worried the river might get the better of us. Our instructor JR couldn't have been more encouraging, not only was he eternally enthusiastic but he provided the best quality kayak instruction. We came off the water having improved our skills beyond what we expected. He makes you feel very comfortable on the river and is very good at spotting even the smallest thing in your technique to alter to make your life easier out there.
We also got the chance to paddle with John, another instructor at Sundance, for a few days who was also an amazing instructor, equally enthusiastic and helpful and had amazing time paddling down the Rogue with them both. It's very clear that both instructors love kayaking, love the river and just love what they do, the instructors really make the whole experience very special. Would absolutely recommend Sundance Kayak school to everyone, a brilliant group of people and a beautiful river! Hope to make it back to you guys at some point in the future!!
I went to learn kayaking with my 10 years old son.
I did the 9 day beginner course. It exceeded expectations in every way. My kayaking improved 1000-fold and I made wonderful friendships with the Sundance family. And the Rogue River is ideal: gorgeous and lots of fun. Miss you all and can't wait to get back out there!
After a few rafting trips, I wanted to try a kayak. Kayaking requires more skill, and my son could have been easily scared.

Learning to kayak with Sundance Kayak School this past summer was a life changing experience, and I enthusiastically recommend them to anyone wanting to get on the water. The instructors are world class - they create a comfortable environment to learn new skills, are passionate about teaching and are fun, patient people who I had a blast spending time with!
From beginning to end I felt this was an exceptionally great group of people. The love of this sport was defiantly fostered with my kids through working with our very intuitive instructor John and our super amazing safety boater Anna. Can not recommend more! We opted for a few days of private instruction with just the family. It was a perfect way to spend some quality family time. I felt like safety was of the utmost importance with this group and they made sure we were comfortable, challenged us, and always having fun....Also, you can't pass on the beauty found on the Rouge, its an amazing place.
5 stars for sure, but should be more like 500. 4 beyond amazing staff members, led by J.R., took 12 people including myself, who all just happened to be either former, current & even terminal cancer patients, who all were quaking with fear at the mere mention of the word rapids on day 1, to flying down class 2+ & even a 3 on the Rogue River in just 4 days. I'm pretty sure you won't find better than that, on a few levels :)
